DOZENS of people face living away from home after the area was devastated by a tornado.
Many properties in Stalybridge and Dukinfield were damaged when the freak T5 storm left people wondering what had happened on Wednesday, December 27.
Now Tameside Council has revealed the damage the phenomenon caused means several residents are not allowed in their houses.
Across the affected area, the authority has issued 76 dangerous building act notices, including 32 in which the household cannot return to the property.
Damage caused by the wind, trees falling down and hitting homes or the impact of items like roof slates and lead flashing being propelled into structures are among the reasons why a building may be declared dangerous.
In the immediate aftermath of the tornado, which struck at about 11pm, Tameside Council opened up Dukinfield Town Hall to anyone who needed emergency accommodation.
However, community spirit, as well as the response of friends and family, meant no-one took up the offer and it has now been stood down.
A Tameside Council spokesperson said: “The council has so far issued 76 dangerous building act notices where 32 households cannot return to their homes until works are complete and their properties are safe.
“Fortunately, nobody has declared themselves homeless at this stage and those evacuated are staying with friends and family.
“Our emergency call centre is available 24/7 for anyone affected needing advice and support.”
