Reopening Ashton bar owners Chute for the stars

A BAR familiar to many people from Tameside is ready to reopen its doors to the public.

Chute, on Bow Street in the town centre of Ashton-under-Lyne, established itself as one of the main nightlife venues in the late 1990s and 200s.

Now after once being a branch of Pound Busters Superstore, Andy Kleek, of Monopoly Events, has brought it back to its former glory as a bar and restaurant in what he hopes is ‘the heralding of a whole new golden era for the town.’

Anticipation is high as an event on Friday, October 27, – a day after a soft launch for about 100 local business owners – has long been sold out.

Then it is open from 9am until 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and 9am until 1am on Friday and Saturday.

Serving tea and coffee every morning, food is served from noon until 8pm daily.

In the daytime, a chilled vibe to the bar is aimed for, with cool stylish house music played throughout the day, with all major sporting events shown live including every televised premiership football game.

Friday and Saturday nights from 6pm will see resident DJs play with resident saxophone and percussion players.

Sunday sees a house roast served, seeing Sunday dinners served with resident DJs playing before it turns into a party at 6pm.

“I used to come to Ashton 15-20 years ago when it used to be one of the go to places to go out,” said Andy. “There has been a decline and being a local lad, I want to do something about it.

“It’s one of the most iconic bars in Manchester, a lot of famous Manchester DJs were there and it had a great atmosphere.

“We want to tap into that again and give people a house bar that plays great house music and also has the element of great food and drinks.

“So people will be able to have the food and then later on it will turn into more of a party venue.”

Chute is the first bar/restaurant to open in Ashton by Monopoly Events. They have already laid out their stance by not allowing sportswear, tracksuits or caps in the venue.

And more are on the horizon, with them planning two more bars around it and high ambitions for the former Yorkshire Bank site on Old Street.

*Chute is at 7, Bow Street, Ashton-under-Lyne and booking is highly recommended as demand, with many people wanting a trip down memory lane, will be high.

You can contact the venue by calling 0161 460 8349 or by emailing chute@monopolyevents.co.uk.
