Check your cancer risk and be aware – new NHS mobile van comes to Tameside

MEN across Tameside are being invited to visit a mobile clinic this month to check their risk of prostate cancer.

The new NHS ‘clinic in a van’ is aimed at black men aged 45 and over. As one in four black men develop prostate cancer, they are more at risk than other men.

But the van, which will be in Ashton-under-Lyne and Denton, is also open to all other men and people with a prostate aged over 45 who have a family history of prostate, breast or ovarian cancer.

That means if your father or brother has had prostate cancer when they were under the age of 55, or your mother or sister has had breast or ovarian cancer when they were under the age of 50. This is because family history can also increase the risk of developing prostate cancer.

A free Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test will also be available for those visiting the van. Results will be given within a couple of weeks and referred on for further investigations if needed.

The roadshow schedule is as follows:

Morrisons on Saxon Street in Denton – Saturday, September 16, and Monday, September 18

IKEA on Wellington Road in Ashton-under-Lyne – Wednesday, September 20 and Saturday, September 23
