ASHTON United have been told the ‘minimum’ for the season is to be pushing for the play-offs – but making the club more secure is as important.
The Robins’ Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign started with a 5-0 defeat at Workington.
But co-chairman Jonathan Sayer believes Steve Cunningham’s side should be pushing at the top end of the table come the end of the season.
He told The Correspondent: “Our aims this year are to make sure we’re challenging for the play-offs, minimum.
“That’s for the men’s team.”
Jonathan also outlined what he wants to see away from the pitch, which could have benefits on it.
A big part of that is the renovated Cross Bar venue at Hurst Cross and getting it busier on non-matchdays.
He added: “Another aim is to get an embed an infrastructure to have women’s first team set-up.
“I think that’s really, really important but we need to go back to basics when we do that.
“It’s also to slowly move the club on to a more sustainable footing. There are things like renovating the bar and getting more people in it.
“A really important thing is not just watching the matches. It’s just getting people to come and see the bar – this is a brilliant bar I think, one of the nicest in the area.
“But we need to get people to know that it’s here.”
