WORK has started on a £6.6 million project that would help specialist care in Ashton-under-Lyne.
A new home, on Holden Street, will provide 28 spaces – split into two, 14-bed communities – that will support adults living with acquired brain injuries, complex mental health needs, dementia, and physical disabilities.
The small group settings of what will be called Acer Mews provide what Exemplar Heath Care calls, ‘a more homely, supportive, and responsive care environment.’
Each of the 28 units will have its own ensuite wet room, while the home will also have communal dining and living spaces, sensory bathrooms, an activities hub and a large accessible garden.
It will also have a dedicated therapy room offering a full holistic approach to the service users with therapeutic care and support led by the physiotherapist and occupational therapist.
Construction started at the new home in April and Acer Mews is set to open in early 2024.
It will create 100 new healthcare jobs in the local area, including health care assistants, registered nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
Sam Cottam, commissioning manager at Exemplar Health Care, said: “This extensive project underscores our steadfast commitment to providing exceptional nursing care for adults with complex needs.
“Acer Mews will not only enhance the lives of our residents but also bring significant benefits to the local community.
“With the creation of 100 new healthcare jobs, we are proud to contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of the area.
“This development showcases our dedication to delivering high-quality care while fostering employment opportunities and positively impacting lives in Ashton-under-Lyne and Greater Manchester.”
