Call for Volunteers in Shepley Wood

FRIENDS of the Tame Valley, the community group looking after the valley and surrounding areas, are calling for volunteers to help with three days of work in Shepley Wood.

Organised by FoTV committee member Rob Hardman, the days will be dedicated to clearing overgrown brambles in the North East corner of Shepley Wood. (M34 5DL).

Those wishing to take part can do so by meeting Rob at 10am on any of the following days:

  • Saturday 13 May (when a litter pick will also be held.
  • Monday 15 May
  • Tuesday 16 May

It is hoped that the removal of the overgrown brambles will not only improve accessibility in the valley, but also prepare the area for potential wildflower planting.

Andrew Gwynne, the MP for Denton and Reddish who helped found FoTV in 2021, is encouraging residents to get involved.

Commenting, Andrew Gwynne said:

“I’d like to thank Rob for devoting three days to improving Shepley Wood.

As fantastic as Rob is, any additional help would be really welcome!

So if you find yourself free on any of these days, please do come on over and help make a positive difference to our beautiful Valley.”

Due to the nature of the work, those wishing to take part should bring protective equipment (thick gloves, suitable clothing) and anything that you can use to cut the brambles.
