Micklehurst All Saints reaps rewards

MOSSLEY is home to an award-winning school after Micklehurst All Saints CE Primary picked up not one, but two.

In the first of a new monthly column for The Correspondent, The Rowans-based establishment details the work that went into them.

IT HAS been a season of success at Micklehurst All Saints CE Primary School!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate our two recent successes and the achievement of two awards. The awards are as a result of a lot of hard work and effort and a reflection of the high quality provision we provide for all of our pupils.

We had a great start to the year with the achievement of the RE Quality Mark (REQM).

This award recognises outstanding learning in Religious Education and was awarded at the silver level.

Our assessor was especially complimentary about the responses from pupils who were asked to share their views about the subject.

She was also intrigued to learn more about the evolution of RE at Micklehurst All Saints and some of the thought- provoking asked by our learners.

As well as speaking to pupils and the subject leader, the assessor also looked at samples of children’s work, classroom displays and planning.

She highlighted our recent Diversity Day as a brilliant example of linking RE with other areas of the curriculum and how it links with current affairs.

We are thrilled to have achieved this recognition and look forward to continuing to develop the subject.

Our second achievement relates to our AcSEED reaccreditation, which we were originally awarded in 2018. The review concluded that Micklehurst All Saints CE Primary School continues to meet the AcSEED criteria for emotional wellbeing and mental health support whilst also demonstrating a strong focus on continuous improvement.

Since our last application, the AcSEED review team were particular impressed by our school having:

  • A named governor with responsibility for Mental Health and Wellbeing.
  • Continued investment in Mental Health and Wellbeing staff training, namely Youth Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Lead.
  • Collaboration with the Anna Freud Centre to audit and improve Mental Health and Wellbeing leadership strategies.
  • Focus on sharing good practice through LA Network for Mental Health and Wellbeing.
  • Extension of School Council role to also include leading assembly in Anti-Bullying Week.
  • Extension of support through Bubble Time and a Counsellor.
  • Extension of parent signposting/self-referral.
  • Visiting counsellor from Off the Record.
  • Additional training for teaching assistants (TAs) to provide social skills interventions.
  • Useful Mental Health and Wellbeing information and signposting available to pupils and parents through school website.
  • School is maintaining a strong Mental Health and Wellbeing ethos, adjusting and extending provisions appropriately (such as enrolling vulnerable pupils on ‘Fuel 4 Fun’), and continuing to invest in staff Mental Health and Wellbeing training.

We are really proud to receive the reaccreditation of the AcSEED award because AcSEED accreditation provides all stakeholders with the confidence Micklehurst All Saints is well equipped to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health of our students.
