A DUKINFIELD lunch club is being funded by a tasty new community cookbook, which has had help from a Coronation Street star.
The Peoples Community Dukinfield group has created the hand-illustrated title including 16 recipes from local people, with proceeds going towards its weekly ‘Warm Welcome’ lunch club.
Dishes range from lasagne and soup to cake and even a vegetarian curry dish by actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, known to millions as Hayley Cropper from the ITV soap.

Sheila Caldecott, volunteer at The People’s Community Dukinfield said: “As a community, it’s important we look after people ourselves and I’m amazed at the things we’ve been able to do as a group.
“Our lunch club is a supportive space with a warm atmosphere and is open to anyone in need of a bit of extra help.
“We cook hearty meals for attendees and we even plan to use fruit and vegetables from our community garden to cook more tasty dishes.
“Creating the community cookbook has been a marvellous way to raise money for our lunch club and also provide easy, affordable recipes for those who may be struggling.”
The club takes place every Wednesday from 12.30pm until 4.30pm at the Jigsaw Homes Community Hub in Dukinfield for a small cost of £1.
People have the opportunity to keep warm, make new friends, enjoy a hot drink and a delicious home cooked meal.
The Peoples Community Dukinfield is a volunteer-led group that started meeting in March to enjoy arts and crafts activities together.
It has now grown into a constituted community organisation, which also looks after a flourishing community garden.
There are 250 copies of the cookbook – with the group supported by Jigsaw Homes and Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre – available to buy on a Go Fund Me page at www.gofundme.com/f/community-cook-book-lunch-club-funder for donations of £6.50 or more.
John McGlynn, Neighbourhood Engagement Officer at Jigsaw Homes Tameside said: “It is inspiring to support the group who have produced a brilliant book full of great recipes and fantastic artwork and knowing that every penny raised through its sale will help people in need right now.”

I can safely say this project is absolutely amazing and mouth watering it’s been a absolute pleasure to be part of this as I have gone from living in my bedroom with depression and anxiety I have made new friends we are such a good team and we are all strong it’s amazing the achievement is mind blowing
