A MAN who decided to not bother disposing of household waste properly and dumped it by the street has been fined hundreds of pounds.
Atif Ahmed was issued with a fixed penalty notice (FPN) after rubbish was found on Moss Street West.
A large amount of household waste, including a number of black bin bags, was found on the pavement near to the junction with Hardwick Street.
And after refusing to pay his FPN, Ahmed, of Hardwick Street, was hauled before Tameside Magistrates Court and fined a total of £275.70.
The court heard a Tameside Council officer investigated reports of fly tipping on June 22.
Eventually, FPNs for littering offences were served on residents who lived nearby. One was paid within 14 days and no further action was taken.
However, despite being offered numerous opportunities, Ahmed failed to respond to any correspondence regarding the FPN he had received.
Following a summons to court, Ahmed pleaded guilty to littering on January 27, telling the court he put a bag of household waste on top of his bin.
He further claimed he contacted the council at the time of receiving the FPN. However, there is no record of the council having received any contact from him.
Ahmed was ordered by magistrates to pay a £146 fine, a £58 victim surcharge and £71.70 clean-up costs.
Tameside Council’s executive member Cllr Denise Ward, who is responsible for environmental services, said: “I’m pleased to see yet another successful prosecution against someone who has dumped waste in the street.
“There is no excuse for either fly tipping and littering – they are both totally unacceptable and disrespectful to the local community and environment.
“We have teams out every day investigating fly tipping and littering, as part of our ongoing Our Streets campaign, and we’ll always take action against offenders where we have the evidence to do so.”

The equivalent of hitting him with a wet lettuce.
These fines are much to low. Should be minimum of £1000.
