A STALYBRIDGE supermarket has turned into an impromptu shrine after several tributes were left to a cat.
The town’s MP, Jonathan Reynolds, has even committed to opening talks over a permanent memorial to Max.

Cards, flowers, plants and poems have been left to the animal, which was often found in the entrance to the Tesco store.
An outpouring of grief followed the news that black and white Max had passed away just before the turn of the year.

And messages in cards include, ‘Hope heaven is a big bowl of tuna.’
Others make reference to the effect of the sight of him as customers made their way in and out, including, ‘Run free beautiful, you made people happy.’ ‘Thanks for brightening some difficult days,’ and, ‘You were loved by all.’

Cat toys have also been left at where Max was often found lying, along with photos and a child’s message.
MP Reynolds, who is currently on a visit to Bangladesh, will get involved about setting up something more permanent.

He replied to a request: “Happy to have a word with Tesco about a permanent memorial if Max’s family would like that.
“Any local artist/sculptors keen to be involved?”
Max became a familiar face at Tesco in Stalybridge after he became a presence that put a smile on people’s faces.
But just before the turn of the year, he died and the sympathy from dozens of people has followed.
His owners said: “We just wanted to say thank you to everyone who worked at and visited Tesco for all of the love and attention you gave Max.
“He loved to hang out and say hello to everyone and it meant a lot to us that he had so many friends who loved him.
“We love and miss him deeply. Thank you for the kind words we’ve received.”

Who is responsible for the dreadful headline? It sounds like the cat was abandoned in the supermarket until you read the body of the article!
