More reasons to shop in Denton

SHOPPERS in Denton can do so at a newly improved supermarket after Morrisons capped a multi-million pound investment.

Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Mike Glover, did the honours on Thursday, November 24 by cutting the ribbon to unveil the revamped facility on Hyde Road.

Now customers can access more products than before, with more ranges being able to be fitted in.

But it is the creation of a new community room that is causing most excitement – groups based in the area can book it and it is a huge part of the company’s aims.

Extra parent and child parking spaces and extra disabled spaces have also been added.

Even the neighbouring fishing pond has been incorporated in what has been done.

Store manager Lee Featherstone said: “The biggest aim is to put the store at the heart of the community, even more so than before.

“It’s a full relaunch. As well as the brand new community room, there are brand new counters and just a better shopping experience.

“The project was really about bringing the store up to date, especially with the new counters and ranges.

“But having the community room is massive. We can things like community meetings, book clubs, knit and natter sessions, anyone can book it and it can be used while the store is open.”

Morrisons’ revamp has already had a benefit as 20 jobs have already been created by the work, which has taken in every aspect of the store.

As well as Cllr Glover, ward councillor Allison Gwynne was there for the opening, as well as other dignitaries and Francis Mouse, mascot for the Francis House Children’s Hospice.

Retail manager Darren Monks said: “There’s been an investment into the café as well as that’s as important a part of the local community as the store.

“We’ve also done some work around the back of the store, where the fishing pond is to incorporate the local fishing club – I’ve not experienced that in Morrisons store before. It’s an integral part of the community.

“Hopefully this will create jobs and really help the local community. If people want to use the room, liaise with the community champion or Lee and we can make that happen.”
