Huge crowds enjoy Christmas celebrations at Stalybridge lights switch-on

SANTA Claus took time away from his busy schedule to drop in on Stalybridge to do the honours as its Christmas lights were switched on.

Before that, Arlies Primary School, Stalybridge Old brass band and dance groups from Tycoons Academy and Sarah England School of Dance entertained the crowds at the event, which was organised by Stalybridge Town Team.

Santa popped in on his sleigh

And Santa joined the party in style, accompanied by volunteers from Dukinfield Stalybridge Rotary Club

Local music talent Odetta, Izzy and Jackson Buckley also performed on the stage as the centre reverberated to the sounds of Christmas cheer

Fairground rides proved popular while local businesses also joined in the occasion as the timing proved perfect.

The festive celebrations were also enhanced by the presence of one of Tameside’s favourite events, ‘Stalybridge Street Fest’.

And the tree in Armentieres Square provides a perfect focal point for festive fun, while another one appeared at the Civic Hall on Friday, November 25.
