Wrap up for Rotary push after award

PEOPLE are being urged to Wrap Up as part of a UK push with the help of Rotary Club members.

And the Dukinfield and Stalybridge branch has extra reason to get involved after receiving a prestigious citation.

Wrap Up Tameside aims to collect winter coats, as well as scarves, hats and gloves, for distribution to charities supporting people who struggle to keep warm during the winter months.

Running during October and November, the local scheme will see items collected being donated to Tameside Women’s Centre and local homeless projects.

Donations can be made at five locations – Ashton-under Lyne Golf Club on Gorsey Way, Dukinfield’s Together Centre on Birch Lane, Stalybridge Celtic Junior Football Club on Mossley Road in Ashton,

Stalyhill Junior School on Hereford Way, Stalybridge and Mossley Sub Post Office on Manchester Road.

Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club President, Stephen Gilligan, said: “This is another example of Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club engaging with the local community while making a positive impact on the lives of people in our neighbourhoods.

“The project takes on a more serious and important role this year, given the increased fuel bills with many local families struggling to keep warm in their homes.

“Last year, the club dropped off more than 300 winter coats at the Tameside Women’s Centre and provided a further 80 for local Homeless projects from the Wrap Up Tameside Campaign.

“These were distributed to individuals and families who were in desperate need of a winter coat “

Meanwhile, Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club is one of only eight in the North West to receive a prestigious Rotary Citation for 2021-22 from last year’s Rotary International President, Shekhar Mehta.

Immediate Past Club President, Ian Cochrane, said: “I am very proud of this achievement in my year as Club President.

“The award is in recognition of the club being able to adopt and deliver an ambitious action plan and

reinforces the fact that Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club is a very active and robust club.

“This was made possible by the large increase in membership, which has helped to further raise its profile and attract even more new members.

“We are a strong and vibrant club where our members enjoy being involved in service projects, developing friendships and supporting our increasing number of social events.

“I wish to thank every member for their support and contribution towards achieving this award.”
