Magnificent Mega Mela

ABOUT 6,000 people streamed into Hyde Park for only the second Hyde Park Mela.

It has been years since the park was this full as the free to enter event brought together all ages and sections of the town’s diverse communities.

Master of ceremonies Andrew Richardson introduced the crowds to a steady stream of singers, dancers and local bands performing on the park’s historic bandstand.

Tameside’s MP Jonathan Reynolds, and deputy Mayor Cllr Tafheen Sharif welcomed everyone on a beautiful sunny Sunday to a Mela that has doubled in size since its launch.

Crowds enjoyed a variety of artisan and food vendors from various communities along with sideshows, a raffle and fun fair.

New additions this year included a vintage car show and a remote-controlled military vehicle and war games display.
