Community project ideas wanted for Mossley SOUP

FOUR community project ideas are being sought to be pitched with the hope of winning funds at the next Mossley SOUP event.

The community crowdfunding event returns on Thursday, October 27 at Emmaus Mossley to bring together the community to promote, fundraise and support local projects.

Mossley residents, artists, community groups, charities and businesses are invited to share their project ideas, with the chance to secure all the funds raised on the night.

Project ideas can be about anything – from sports or environmental to artistic or even a new business start-up. The only criteria is it must be connected to Mossley in some way.

At Mossley SOUP events, attendees donate £5 in return for food, entertainment, the opportunity to hear four project presentations, a vote and contribution to the winner’s pot.

Each presenter has four minutes to share their idea and answer four questions from the audience.

The project presenter who secures the most votes takes home all the money raised at the door to carry out their project.

Paul Dowthwaite, presenter of the winning project at the ninth Mossley SOUP, said: “First you have a one in four chance of winning a substantial sum of money. That is better odds and easier than most grant applications.

“Secondly and perhaps more importantly, win or lose, it is a great way of connecting with the community, telling people about your group and getting feedback on your project.”

Previous Mossley SOUP dinners have raised winner’s pots of between £545 and £1,720 and all the projects presented have benefitted, including from increased public awareness, new volunteers, donations of materials and other financial support.

To present your idea at the next Mossley SOUP dinner you will need to complete a short project proposal before Thursday, September 29. To submit a proposal online visit
