DAVE Edwards Double Glazing are set to celebrate 50 years in business and it is truly a family affair.
Dave originally started the company back in 1973 from a small workspace at his home on Rodney Street, where he specialised in joinery.
He made, supplied and fitted wooden window frames – and believe it or not some of these early installations are still in place!
His wife used to help stain the frames while she was pregnant with their son.
Astute businessman Dave was soon able to move to larger, and then even larger, premises, notably the huge unit on Mossley Road, Ashton Under Lyne, as the company flourished.
Working with his brothers, all three of them at stages, and with help from his father as well, he progressed into manufacturing and installing windows and doors in uPVC.
Dave brought his son Stephen into the fold and he has worked alongside his dad since finishing school aged 16. Sue worked alongside the pair for many years until she retired in October 2021 and is now enjoying a well deserved rest.
Dave has now passed the baton onto his son Stephen while he too tries to put his feet up and enjoy his retirement. However, he does not sit still for long and is still very much involved in the business.
Stephen now runs the business with the help of his wife Jill. They have a fantastic team, including step-sister Emma, and are still very busy installing new windows, doors, conservatories and more, as they have done for almost half a century.
Jill said: “We are really looking forward to our 50th year of trading and our reputation is something you cannot pay for.
“It is lovely that the children of some of the couples who we’ve completed installations for over the years are now coming through and having their own windows and doors done. “These word-of-mouth recommendations give us immense pleasure as we know it is our work that has led to them.”
• Dave Edwards Double Glazing is based at North Street Works on Katherine Street in Ashton-Under-Lyne and operates six days a week from 9.15am until 5pm on Monday to Friday and from 9.15am until 3pm on Saturdays.
