Champions host presentation night

STALY Vegas, home of the Stalybridge Snooker League champions, hosted the league’s presentation night.

St Peter’s collected most trophies and were closely followed by Mossley B and Staly Vegas.

The evening started with a ‘Killer’ tournament on the snooker table which was won by Andrew Betts, of Staly Labour. Chris Edwards, of Mossley B, was runner up.

After the snooker competition, the buffet was taken before the formal trophy presentation started.

Before the trophies were handed out, there was one minute’s silence in memory of Richard Tipping who had died earlier that week. He mainly played whist for Staly Vegas.

The main team awards were won by Staly Vegas, snooker league; St Peter’s, whist league; Mossley B, Berry Cup; The Hyde Club, The Taylor Cup.

The top table awards were won by Andrew Betts, individual billiards, and Dan Tipping,
individual snooker. Another of the main individual awards was the Sportsmanship Trophy, which is voted for by the teams, to reward the person who has been most helpful and sporting throughout the season. This was won by Kevin Welsh, of Staly Labour.

The new season begins on September 29 with the George Fletcher Trophy final between Staly Vegas and Mossley B.

There is also the Gordon Clay Trophy final between St Peter’s and The Hyde Club. The actual league begins one week later on October 6 and the league should finish in early March.
