A DENTON schoolgirl has designs on bigger and better things after winning a competition to design a new logo for a popular event ahead of its relaunch.
Tameside Hack – which sees 11 to 18-year-olds compete at computer coding – is coming back to the calendar in October.
And it will operate under a new banner designed by St Thomas More pupil Alice Moran.
Hack returns for its eighth event after what will be a 20-month absence caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
And Alice’s winning logo is al ready to go on all its branding after being developed by Matthew Metcalf from brand marketing agency Whizzard.
It has also paid off after the 16-year-old was presented with a graphics tablet for her win by Alex Parkin, senior highways engineer at Pell Frischmann, which is working on the new Stalybridge Interchange and the revamp of Ashton town centre.
Dean Kleban, of Tameside Hack, said: “It’s fantastic to have seen such interest in this competition, with entrants from pupils across all areas of Tameside.
“Tameside HACK7 was the biggest ever Hack, with more than 120 young people attending and we’re looking forward to relaunching in October.”
Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s executive member for education, achievement and equalities, was also on hand to present Alice – who is moving on to study at Manchester’s Loreto College in September – with her award, for which she received a framed image of the logo, the graphics tablet and a hoodie and t-shirt.
She also told how this win has already seen St Thomas More’s head girl work with design professionals.
She said: “I understand Alice has already attended a development day at creative agency North Star in Manchester, where she worked with a top designer to develop the logo and prime it for both online and physical use.”
