Coolest entrance for prom kids

THE PRIZE for whoever made the coolest entrance to a school prom this year was won by two Mossley pupils – who turned up in an ice cream van.

Matthew Taylor and Alex Dyke had ears pricking as much as eyes averting their glare with their brilliant idea to celebrate finishing Mossley Hollins High school.

For the pair did not come in the usual Limo, their vehicle of choice was Granny Annie’s van – and yes, it did have its music blaring.

After a lap of the car park at the White Hart in Lydgate, where the prom was being held, the 16 year olds lapped up the adulation of their pals.

Tracey Buckley, partner of Matthew’s dad Gary, told The Correspondent: “We wanted something different for them. We did ask for a Ghostbusters car but that was too expensive.

“But Gary saw the ice cream van and asked if it would be OK to take Matthew to the prom and Gillian Hunt, who owns it, said, ‘Yes, of course.’

“Talk about making an entrance! It was good. We saw something similar on YouTube so went with that.“We actually asked about two months before the prom and she said, ‘Just give me a ring a couple of weeks before and I’ll sort you out.’

“They got in at the Stamford Arms in Carrbrook, travelled to the White Hart, went around the car park and the got dropped off right in front.

“It had its music going when it arrived and the other students loved it, they couldn’t get over it.

“Now any other events he has to go to, the standard has been set.”
