DENTON Town manager Darren Saville has reassessed his goals for the 2022-23 campaign in Cheshire Football League, division one.
Saville, who only took charge towards the end of last season, believes his side is capable of a top-five spot.
It is a contrast to when Saville took charge following an exodus of players in the wake of Dave Pollard’s resignation as manager.
Saville and his number two Gavin Affleck hurriedly signed nine players in their first week before the league’s transfer window shut.

And after the massive rebuild, Saville initially thought 2022-23 would be a season of consolidation in readiness for a promotion push in the following campaign.
The new players quickly integrated into the side as Town finished seventh despite the managerial upheavals.
And following summer strengthening of the squad, Saville believes his side can challenge at the top end.
Saville said: “When I took over, I thought it would take time to rebuild the squad.
“But my thoughts have changed because of how well we did at the end of the season.
“We have kept the same players, who have bought into what we are trying to achieve, and also added experience to the squad.
“And in view of that, my aim is a minimum of top five.”
That has been reinforced by pre-season results which have included a 3-3 draw against Maine Road and 2-1 loss to Cheadle Town, both North West Counties League sides.
Town’s major summer signing has been Matthew Soares, 33, a big commanding centre half, who has played semi-pro for clubs including Cheadle Town and Ramsbottom.
Experienced striker Jordan McCann, who signed towards the end of the season, is also staying which is a huge boost.
There may also be a couple more additions, one potentially very exciting which the club is keeping under wraps.
Saville revealed a former professional, who has also played non-league, has been training at Whittles Park pre-season and has expressed an interest in signing.
“Until we get him signed, I cannot say any more as I am sure he would attract attention from clubs at a higher level,” he said.
• Town have also appointed John Motterson as their new reserve-team manager with Dean Holt his assistant.
The pair have enjoyed success in junior football at Delamere Rangers and brought along half a dozen of the team which played Under-16s football last season.
