OMG! GTB secures Commonwealth Games gold WOW

GEORGIA Taylor-Brown was all smiles as she added Commonwealth Games gold to last year’s Olympic Games success in Tokyo.

The Tameside triathlon star anchored Team England’s mixed relay squad to victory, 48 hours after collecting a silver medal in the women’s individual race.

This time, she and team mates: Alex Yee, Sophie Coldwell and Sam Dickinson weren’t headed as Wales and Australia claimed silver and bronze respectively.

“The team set me up perfectly for that final leg,” said Droylsden raised Taylor-Brown, 28.

“There was a lot of pressure after they had done everything right. I tried to enjoy it and I was smiling the whole way around.

“I put my head down on the bike because my running hasn’t been great, especially on Friday.

“I just took in all the noise on the run and once I got over the hill, I knew we had got it. So, I smiled my way to the finish line.

“After the team had put me in such a good position, I just told myself it’s 20 minutes and I can do anything for 20 minutes.”

Taylor-Brown, appearing at her first Commonwealth Games, took over in the lead from Sam Dickinson, opting not to wear a wet suit for her swim.

She came out of the water with a 24 second lead, extending it to 37 seconds after the first transition.

By the time she started her run for glory, the ex-East Cheshire Harrier led by exactly a minute.

Welsh star Non Stanford cut the deficit slightly but England won by 46 seconds in one hour 16 minutes 40 seconds.
