PLANS to build six houses on what was a memorial garden have been met with fierce opposition.
Andrew Rhodes and Anthony Marland of Mossley-based Premier Land and Homes Ltd has applied to Tameside Council to build six properties on the Hanover Street site, which would be called Hanover Gardens.
However, 90 people have voiced their opposition to the proposal, which would the former memorial garden and cemetery for pets transformed.
If planning permission is granted, six five-bedroomed houses will be built on the area on spilt levels.

The front of each property will be set back from Hanover Street to allow provision of a driveway serving an integral garage constructed to provide access at street level.
In addition to the garage, the ground floor space will accommodate a hallway leading to a dining room and kitchen at the rear of the property.
The lower ground floor will contain two bedrooms, a bathroom and a living room opening out on to the rear garden.
The roof void will accommodate a master bedroom with en suite bathroom, two more bedrooms and a bathroom.

The steep slope means external steps will be provided alongside the gable end of the properties to enable access.
Permission was granted for a similar scheme back in 2014 but nothing ever came of it.
And documents supporting the application state: “The proposed provision of six detached dwellings will be a compatible addition to the current mix of house types.
“The provision of family sized dwellings within the locality will also contribute towards the local authority’s perceived need for this form of accommodation.
“In particular the development will contribute towards a balanced range of housing stock within Mossley.”
They also said it would, ‘bring into beneficial use a disused and overgrown site occupying a sustainable location within an established residential area.’
Tameside Council’s highways department is satisfied access plans are satisfactory but it would require the widening of the existing footway at the front of the homes to two metres.
Planning permission will be granted or refused by Tameside Council’s Speakers Panel (Planning) committee.
