Fun for all at Hollingworth Platinum Jubilee celebrations

THERE was fun for all at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Hollingworth.

The Friends of Hollingworth committee decided it was an excellent idea to bring the community together and celebrate the landmark occasion.

The volunteers invited villagers to bring a picnic and enjoy entertainment, including Arnfield Brass Band, Ellen Lynch, Scott Wright Take This That and The Other and Dave.

The Civic Mayor of Tameside Cllr Mike Glover and Mayoress Anne Gordon attended the event and tucked into homemade lemonade and lemon drizzle. Also attending were Cllrs Jacqueline Owen and Jacqueline North.

Games and activities included ‘Beat The Goalie’ put on by Hollingworth Juniors, Hannah’s Facepaints and Manchester Balloon Modeller did face paints and balloons.

Steve Icey provided the best ice-creams while villagers brought along delicious baked cakes, including Verity James, whose daughters helped her bake all day and also made old fashioned lemonade.

The committee said: “We wanted it to be a free event for the community to enjoy so through some fundraising we ensured the children had free face paints and balloons and a bubble station.

“The bands/singers and Hollingworth Juniors came and supported the event for free, and Greater Manchester Police ensured the roads were not blocked.”
