Celebrations ring out at St Joseph’s Primary with Jubilee Pageant

FROM poems and songs to the National Anthem, Jubilee celebrations rang out loud at St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Mossley.

Pupils performed a special ‘Jubilee Pageant’ in the school hall, attended by family, friends and staff to mark the Queen’s 70 years of service.

Year 3 recited the popular poem ‘Daffodils’, Year 4 performed ‘Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf’ and Year 5 sang ‘Dancing in the Streets’, with the locations tweaked to reflect Mossley, Tameside and the UK.

‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ was rapped by Year 6 and the school’s choir sang ‘Power In Me’ before everyone sang the National Anthem together.

Then all guests were invited to join the children for afternoon tea. Year 6 pupils had served afternoon tea to the school governors and staff the day before as part of the celebrations.

Throughout the day, pupils made crowns, learned about British values, and researched the history of the Royal Family.

And a tree was planted in the school grounds as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative across the country.

Irene Williams, headteacher, said: “It has been lovely to get everybody back together after Covid for such a special event.

“The children have loved the routine of coming into assembly with everyone so they are over the moon.”
