PRIORY Tennis Club’s efforts to promote the sport locally has won national recognition.
After receiving LTA Cheshire’s Community and Parks award in March, was nominated for the 2022 LTA National Awards Finals in May for their services and contributions to tennis and sport in the local community.

Priory’s volunteers and coaching staff have been working hard on promoting tennis in Tameside, including offering access to coaching and specialised equipment for disabled adults in the local community as part of the LTA’s Open Court Programme.
Working alongside the Tameside Sport and Physical Activity Network, the club has also provided a number of fully funded tennis camps in an effort to encourage children into the sport.
Despite not winning the national award, the club is extremely proud to have been recognised for its efforts and is keen to continue promoting and encouraging tennis and sport in Tameside.
The club also congratulated head coach Andy Perry who was also a finalist for the LTA Cheshire’s Coach of the Year.
On the courts, the men’s first team has begun its greatest challenge.
After winning six straight promotions, Priory find themselves in division one of the Slazenger North East Cheshire League for the first time in the club’s history.
The men’s second team hope to continue its great run of form and challenge for promotion in division seven. The women’s first and second teams also have high hopes having both narrowly missed out on promotion last year.
The women’s first team, promoted after a reorganisation of the leagues, also face a tough challenge in division three, while the women’s second team has high hopes in division six having narrowly missed out on promotion last year.
