Queen title runs in the family

A MOSSLEY church’s new rose queen will have no shortage of places to go for advice in the role – she will be the sixth family member to hold it.

Christina Berry will be the latest person to hold the honour at St George’s, on Stamford Street.
But she is far from the first person in her clan to hold the post. Almost 40 years of history are invested in the role. For auntie Debs Mellor was crowned in 1985, mum Wendy in 1987, cousin Charlotte Mellor in 2009, sister Rebekah in 2012 and other sister Stephanie in 2016!

11-year-old Christina, who attends Oldham’s Bluecoat School, will be crowned on Saturday, June 18 by Nicola Shore, who has herself been Brownie Queen of St George’s when she was younger.

Her retinue will be sisters Abigail and Izabel Partington and Freya Thorp

And seeing her in her new ‘old’ role will fill the family with pride.

Wendy said: “It makes us all so proud that we are able to continue this fantastic tradition.

“Christina is looking forward to starting her year of fundraising and is hoping to raise lots of money for St George’s church and charities close to her heart.”
