A STALYBRIDGE hairdresser’s shop will change from human to canine clients as plans to convert it into a dog groomer’s were given the go ahead.
Bethany Ramsden, who owns Mutzy’s on Dukinfield’s King Street, plans to change the unit on Market Street in her home town into her business new premises.
Standing next to Riverside House, the property was the site of All Dolled Up but Bethany, who lives on Demesne Drive, insists the change will not affect the area.
In a statement to Tameside Council, she said: “I have been looking for a local premises in order to develop my business and promote my services to a wider clientele, as well as keeping my existing clients.

“Ideally on a high street, where my presence can be seen and there is a good mix of people who would possibly require my professional skills with animal health and welfare.
“As 53 Market Street is in the Stalybridge town centre conservation area, I ensure there will be no impact on the conservation and heritage area from my business.
“No loud music, no bright neon signs, or additional buildings.
“I fully intend to keep the shop in keeping with the surrounding area and premises that are there now and fully respect the current conservation and heritage of Stalybridge.
“I specialise in smaller dog breeds and work on a one-to-one basis, with no more than two dogs in the salon at any one time.
“Grooms can take around two hours or less, depending on what is required and as the dogs are engaged in their groom there is very little noise, if any at all, from them.
“I could not see any reason soundproofing of any kind would be required. The only noise that I could foresee would be from the hot air dryer, similar to a professional stylist hairdryer.”
Permission was granted on December 23 by Tameside Council. The business proposes to open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9am until 6pm and be closed on Sunday and Monday.
And Bethany believes current parking provision in Stalybridge will be enough, adding: “There is safe short stay parking outside the shop and surrounding area, so easy access for arrival and collection of clients’ pets.”
