Denton Christmas celebrations step up

CHRISTMAS is about to arrive in Denton with the return of a popular annual event and the re-emergence of a direct line to Santa Claus.

Town councillors Vincent Ricci, Allison Gwynne and Denise Ward have organised a festive party for vulnerable citizens on Wednesday, December 1.

And at its Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday, November 27, the Denton North East Post Box, in which letters to Santa can be posted before they are delivered, will be back in the Civic Square.

In the lead up to December 25, it will then be found at Denton Wellness Centre until December 20.

Having been unable to hold an annual party for two years and not being able to raise funds for such an event, this year’s at Denton Labour Club – which runs from noon until 4pm – will cost £5 per person to cover the outlay.

As well as the hot traditional meal, there will be wine, bingo and raffles, including one for a hamper. Vince Hughes will provide entertainment

And if previous years are anything to go by, it is sure to be popular, with people from all over Tameside attending with their friends and family.

If you would like a ticket – admission is by ticket only – you can contact Cllr Denise Ward by phoning 0161 336 6121 or emailing Denise.ward@tameside.gov.uk.
