Stalybridge pays its respects

HUNDREDS of people flooded into Stalybridge as the town marked Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

MP Jonathan Reynolds was joined by veterans, councillors and dozens of people of all ages at the November 14 service at its war memorial.

A march through Stalybridge’s centre, led by the town’s brass band, snaked around Armentieres Square, Grosvenor Street, Melbourne Street and Market Street.

Everyone then gathered on Trinity Street, where a solemn service was followed by the nationally-observed two-minute silence.

Representatives of the military, the police, schools, churches and youth groups laid wreaths at the memorial, with Mr Reynolds also paying tribute.
