RELATIVES of the three Marshall brothers whose story sparked such support met those who ran to remember them at a Remembrance Sunday fundraiser.
Dougie and Brian Marshall and Audrey Hankey – closely connected to Fred, George and Harry, of Carrbrook – attended Stalybridge’s Fox Tavern on November 14 to thank the ex-servicemen who took part in the Run to Remember.
But it was Liam Simpson and Richard Kershaw who thanked them for coming!
Dozens of people attended the Darnton Road venue after the remembrance service in the town centre, where further funds were raised for the Friends of Stalybridge War Memorial.
Even the fire brigade turned up – and children were allowed to have a go on the hose of an appliance, facing away from the pub and houses!
The main sentiment, though, was mutual respect and thanks, both ways.
