THE Stalybridge Snooker League is to resume in September after an 18-month break caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2019-20 season was abandoned due to the first lockdown and the 2020-21 campaign never saw a ball potted as venues remained shut.
After several weeks of organisation, the league will resume with six teams as approved at the last annual meeting in September 2020, Mossley A having withdrawn for the time being.
The league will start with the traditional George Fletcher and Gordon Clay Memorial Trophy matches on the table and at whist.
Normally it would have the league and cup winners in whist and snooker playing each other, but this year it will be league winners against league runner up as they had to close the season early and never got the chance to play all matches.
The George Fletcher Trophy snooker match will be between Hyde CC and St Peters whereas the Gordon Clay whist will involve Mossley B and Denton CC. Both matches will be played on September 30 at The Hyde Club (7.30pm).
The league programme will start on Thursday, October 7, and will run until around March when the knockout competitions will start and run for a further three months.
The league will finish with its presentation night and annual meeting.
League secretary Ian Hopton said: “It is very good to be back again and it has been welcomed by all the clubs involved.
“The league is competitive while giving players the opportunity to socialise every Thursday.
“The league has a lot of long serving members and some new players have joined this year, but we are always looking for new players or new clubs to join us.
“We play snooker, billiards and whist every Thursday evening and if you would like to join us, you can call me 07736 678303 or contact me by email firstname.lastname@example.org”
