ALAN Richards, secretary and co-founder of Denton Walking Football Club, collapsed and died playing the game he loved.
The 70-year-old, who was warmly known as Mr Walking Football, was playing at Denton Youth FC’s King Street ground.
Alan, who lived in Denton, organised the group which has more than 80 members but only played occasionally.
Gordon Nixon, also a co-founder of the club in 2016, said: “Alan was very well known and liked in walking football.
“He did a lot in securing grants and organising the club, things he enjoyed and which he was good at.”
Alan and Gordon helped resurrect a former walking football group which ceased to exist by forming a new club five years ago.
It has since grown hugely as the popularity of walking football has increased.
The four other committee members will take over administrative duties.
Alan, a retired lorry driver, lived in Denton and leaves wife Susan, son Paul, daughter Gina and granddaughter Eve.
