Hyde United hosts charity match

THE Hyde United Community Fund, which supports community projects across all age ranges, and charity partners Willow Wood Hospice received proceeds from a charity football match at Hyde United.

Former Tigers’ legend Tony Steenson organised the fundraiser which was saw a team of former professionals beat a celebrity side 3-2.

Corrie’s Andy Whyment Chris Bisson and Alan Halsall

The former professionals included ex-Manchester United great Denis Irwin, former Hyde favourite George Oghani and Liam Dickinson, once of Stalybridge Celtic.

The celebrity side featured soap stars Andy Whyment and Alan Halsall as well as Rhodri Giggs, brother of Ryan.

Admission was by donations on the day and there will be a fundraising raffle for travel vouchers donated by Jet2 holidays who sponsored the match.

Sadly the remnants of Storm Fleur – it was cold and wet – meant the attendance at Ewen Fields was less than had been expected.
