TAMESIDE Council is looking at signing up to take part in a Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) after seeing neighbouring Stockport do it.
Six large developments are being done to completely redevelop an area of the town centre – including apartments, new homes for large businesses, and a state-of-the-art transport interchange.
MDCs are designed to attract investment into areas that will be completely renovated.
As well as Stockport, they operate at Tees Valley in the north east and two in London, including one managing the former 2012 Olympic Park.
Locally, Stockport Town Centre West Mayoral Development Corporation has attracted major employers Stagecoach, musicMagpie, and BASF into the town centre.
It is overseeing developments of new offices and workspace, a hotel, an ‘all-age residential scheme’ and residential developments.
A new £50 million transport interchange scheme will also be completed by next year.
