Suspected Stalybridge illegal rave broken up

POLICE are thought to have broken up a suspected illegal rave at woodland in Stalybridge.

Officers are said to have been called to an area close to Springbank Lane in the early hours of today (Saturday, July 3).

And it is understood that when they arrived at the site, which lies close to Stamford Golf Club in Carrbrook, a small gathering of approximately 15 people was discovered.

Several people are believed to have made off, leaving behind music equipment and alcohol which was seized.

However, a group that police suspected was associated with the event was stopped a short time later on nearby Wakefield Road.

A dispersal notice was issued for 48 hours and this group was issued with dispersal notices.

Officers are likely to continue to be in the local area to prevent any further anti-social behaviour – although no other groups are believed to have been identified.
