COMMUNITY-minded members of Ashton Young Labour Group joined local councillors for a litter pick.
The volunteers focused on the area around Ashton United Football Club in Hurst ward as the club gears up for the new season. They were joined by Hurst Councillor Dolores Lewis and St Michael’s Councillor Bill Fairfoull.

Litter picks have also been taking place in Waterloo ward organised by Councillors Vimal Choksi and Sangita Patel. Their band of volunteers have cleared the areas around Waterloo Park, Crowhill Estate and Cranbrook Street in recent weeks.
In Droylsden East, Ward Councillors David Mills, Laura Boyle and Susan Quinn were out and about with their litter pickers clearing local parks and beauty spots of dumped rubbish.

Ashton MP Angela Rayner said: “Flytipping is a terrible blight on our communities and the mindless minority who dump rubbish cause so much stress and upset for everyone else.
“I am currently working with local residents and ward councillors on ways to tackle this issue with stronger deterrents.
“It shouldn’t be left to residents to clear up the areas in which they live but it’s great to see so many people out showing true community spirit.”
