Mabel Fund keeps on giving

THE Mabel Fund keeps on giving to the people of Stalybridge.

Councillor Clive Patrick, who helps administer the fund set up in memory of former resident Mabel Wilson, recently handed over a cheque for £1,000 to the Tameside East Foodbank.

Mabel, who died in Chester at the age of 87 in 2017, left a five-figure sum bequest for the town.

She was born in Carrbrook and had fond memories of growing up there and in Stalybridge and wanted to give something back to a community that she had loved so much.

Cllr Patrick was contacted by Hazel Walker, Mabel’s niece, and accepted a request to help distribute the money to worthy causes in Carrbrook and Stalybridge.

Money was given to local primary schools to bring in theatrical companies to put on pantomimes and brass band concerts were staged at care home while money was spent on other projects to brighten the locality and improve play facilities for children.

While all that money has been distributed, Mabel’s friends are continuing to fundraise in her memory so the Mabel Fund can continue to do good work.
