FORMER Tameside firefighter Clive Green is reaching for the stars with his ongoing mission to spread awareness of Pulmonary Fibrosis and is ramping up momentum on his latest campaign.
Along with wife Sue, Clive founded the Tameside Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group (TPFSG) in April 2018 and one year later launched the ‘Around the World with TPFSG Fun Challenge’.
Clive, 72, said: “We’re asking people, when going on a day trip or holiday, whenever and wherever, to take their photo with one of our posters.
“It can be with a landmark, a famous face, whatever you like.Then send us the picture.
“We want to have fun with this and see how far away our posters travel, but at the same time it is helping raise awareness of this little known, incurable, deadly disease.”
Since launching the campaign many famous faces have jumped on board to back Clive, including Sir Chris Hoy, Jenson Button, Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag.
His ultimate goal, though, would be to see one of his posters make it all the way up to the astronauts aboard the International Space Station before his own battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis gets the better of him.
Pulmonary Fibrosis is an incurable, life-limiting disease which causes scarring of the lungs. Life expectancy for someone diagnosed with PF can be as little as between three and five years.
Clive, who served with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service for 30 years, said: “In the last 13 months things have progressed, sadly not for the better.
“I am now on oxygen, to help when walking, but it is another downward step on this rocky slope.
“But I am not going down without a fight. I am more determined than ever to continue my work with the TPFSG to help raise awareness and eliminate stigma surrounding Pulmonary Fibrosis.”
Despite his illness, Clive walked 182 miles on his treadmill last year and raised £2,000 which was donated to various PF charities.
