SIX weeks ago, Stalybridge Celtic Juniors’ players were set the task of completing their daily exercise and sending in the miles they covered either walking, running or cycling. The initial target was to cover the 200 miles from Stalybridge to Wembley.
Players from across the club’s teams, from the youngest aged four to the oldest at 16, got out on their bikes, put on their trainers or walking boots and sent in their efforts every day.
One month after launching and the 200-mile challenge to Wembley was achieved. The next target was set at a further 265 miles from Wembley to the Johan Cruyff Arena, Amsterdam, home to European heavyweights Ajax.
The return to school on March 8 brought the challenge to an end and in total the boys and girls covered a whopping 540 miles.
The coaches could not be prouder of all the players who took part, getting outside in all weathers, sometimes freezing cold and even snowy conditions to get their miles in.
