Jack jumps across the pond in his next move

JACK Johnson will be swapping Audenshaw for Ottawa after taking his rugby league career to Canada.

The former Audenshaw School pupil has agreed to join Ottawa Aces, who enter the 13-a-side code’s pyramid at League One level next year.Johnson, 24, came through at Super League Warrington Wolves before moving to Championship side Widnes Vikings after suffering a badly broken leg.

He also worked for an electrical company part-time while at Widnes. Now he will be playing his trade in the Canadian capital from 2021.

Johnson said: “I’m really looking forward to getting over there and get back to playing some rugby.

“I’m looking forward to getting started with a brand new team and getting over to Canada.”

Johnson, who made his name playing on the wing, is expected to do well at League One level with the newly formed outfit.

And head coach Laurent Frayssinous, who will lead them in their inaugural season, cannot wait to work with him.

He said: “I am over the moon to sign a player of Jack Johnson’s calibre.

“Jack comes from a great system and he will add a lot to our squad with his experience, his speed and his try scoring record.

“I am looking forward to seeing him around his team-mates for the start of the new season.”
