A CENTRE that gives children from Hyde and Denton the chance to get on the water has received a prestigious award.
And representatives from Debdale Outdoor Activity Club will be at a national show to receive their accolade.
The work done by the centre, which is based on Hyde Road, just over the border from Denton, has been recognised by the Royal Yachting Association.
After helping children get into sailing and windsurfing, it has been awarded a commendation by the group, in association with Yachts and Yachting Magazine.
That will see them receive their accolade at next year’s RYA Dinghy Show at London’s Alexandra Palace.
DOAC was not one of the 10 clubs shortlisted for the 2020 Club of the Year award but already eye are set on building on what they have done.
The centre’s commodore Nicola Stockdale said: “We are so proud of this achievement and maybe next year we will get shortlisted.
“A massive thank you to all of our instructors, volunteers and members for helping us get to this point and we can’t wait to improve upon our current offer. Bring on 2020.”
DOAC has already introduced one change ahead of 2020 by unveiling its new logo, which incorporates two yacht sails.
