UNPAID carers in Tameside will have the chance to access advice, learn about their rights and meet local support organisations at a special drop-in event.
The event will take place at Tameside Carers Centre on Thursday, November 19, to mark Carers Rights Day, bringing together organisations offering support to people looking after a family member, friend or neighbour.
Many people who take on caring responsibilities do not initially recognise themselves as carers, viewing what they do as simply supporting someone they love. As a result, they may miss out on advice and support available to help them.
Running from 10am until midday, the event will give visitors the opportunity to ask questions, find out what help they may be entitled to and speak directly to a range of local services.

Organisations attending include the Alzheimer’s Society, Stroke Association, Age UK, Welfare Rights, Talking Therapies, Community Nurses, Adult Services and Social Prescribing, alongside other local support groups and services.
Councillor Jackie Lane, Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Inclusivity, said: “Carers make an invaluable contribution to the lives of so many people across Tameside, often putting the needs of others before their own.
“Carers Rights Day is a fantastic opportunity to help people recognise they are a carer and to learn more about their rights, access advice and discover the range of support available to them locally.
“We would encourage anyone who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour to come along, speak to our friendly teams and find out how we can help.”
The Carers Centre is based at The People Place in Tameside One, at Market Place in Ashton-under-Lyne.
