Flu jabs on offer at pop-up clinics across Tameside this winter

TAMESIDE residents can get their flu jab at a series of pop-up clinics being held across the borough between October and December.

Stalybridge Primary Care Network (PCN) has organised walk-in sessions and appointments at locations including Crownpoint Shopping Park in Denton, Sainsbury’s in Ashton, Mossley Market and Morrisons stores in Dukinfield, Hyde and Denton.

Vaccinations will also be available at Active Tameside centres and the PCN’s Stalybridge hub, giving eligible residents more opportunities to get protected ahead of winter.

Most sessions offer the injectable flu vaccine for adults eligible for a free NHS jab, while some also provide the nasal spray vaccine for children aged two and three.

Flu can cause serious illness, particularly among older people, pregnant women, young children and those with certain long-term health conditions. Vaccination reduces the risk of serious illness and hospital admission, while helping protect vulnerable people from infection.

NHS flu vaccinations are available this season to eligible groups, including people aged 65 and over, pregnant women, children aged two and three, school-aged children, care home residents and people with certain long-term health conditions.

Residents unsure whether they qualify for a free vaccination can contact their GP practice or speak to a healthcare professional.

Tameside Council’s First Deputy and Executive Member for Population Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Michael Smith, said: “Stalybridge PCN’s mobile outreach clinics are a fantastic way of reaching residents from all across Tameside.

“Getting your flu vaccination is crucial to protect those most at risk of serious illness and reduce pressure on health and care services during the winter months. I’d encourage anyone who is able to attend one of the clinics to do so, it’s a quick process with a meaningful impact.”

The pop-up clinics are not the only option for residents seeking a flu jab. Eligible people can also arrange a vaccination through their GP practice, a participating community pharmacy or the NHS App and website.

A full list of clinic dates, times and locations is available on the Stalybridge PCN website.
