ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE’S Memorial Gardens may be improved after flaws were pointed out.
The condition of the area, including supposed uneven pathways, sparked the concern of Ashton St Michael’s Cllr Danny Carr.
According to him, several areas requiring attention have been identified, including blocked drains and several uneven covers.
The flagged area surrounding the base of the memorial is also said to have been assessed.
Now after Tameside Council’s greenspace and engineering services met at the site, quotations for remedial works are currently being sought.
Cllr Carr also says blocked drains have now been cleared and arrangements are being made to reset the uneven covers.
A specialist mason has been approached to provide a quotation for levelling the uneven flags and addressing the defects in the area closest to the memorial.
He told The Correspondent: “These measures are intended as short-term improvements to address the immediate safety concerns that I reported to ensure the site remains safe and accessible for visitors.
“Whilst I welcome these commitments there is still a lot more to do before they are back to the standard they deserve.”
