YOUNG footballers will swap the pitch for litter pickers as they join forces with Stalybridge Town Team – and volunteers from across the community are being encouraged to join them.
Players from Stalybridge Celtic’s Under-8s team, along with their parents and carers, will take part in the latest community clean-up on Saturday, September 26.
The Town Team holds regular clean-up sessions throughout Stalybridge, bringing volunteers together to tackle litter and help improve the appearance of the town centre and surrounding areas.
This month’s event will see the volunteers joined by the young footballers and their families, with organisers hoping other residents will also come along and lend a hand.
Volunteers will meet at 9.30am at the Stalybridge Town Team Hub in Armentieres Square, on the corner of Tesco’s car park.
Following a short briefing, participants will split into small teams before heading around the town and along the canal to collect litter.
All equipment will be provided, including litter pickers, bags and hi-vis clothing, and anyone who would like to volunteer is welcome to join in.
Stalybridge Town Team is run by volunteers and organises a range of activities and events aimed at supporting the town, including regular clean-ups and the annual Bridge Fest music event.
The group hopes the latest session will make a visible difference while also encouraging younger members of the community to take pride in their surroundings.
Anyone wishing to take part can simply meet at the Town Team Hub in Armentieres Square at 9.30am on Saturday, September 26.
