Hyde town centre to be transformed into a free family fun day

STREET theatre, circus skills, face painting and live music are among the attractions heading to Hyde.

Families are being invited to enjoy a day of free entertainment when ‘Happenin in Hyde’ takes over the town centre.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 26, from 10.30am to 4.30pm, with activities taking place at Hyde Outdoor Market and Clarendon Square.

There will be plenty to see and do throughout the day, with a colourful programme of street theatre, walkabout performances, arts and crafts and music.

Young visitors can meet Wilfred and his unlikely companion Napoleon the Chicken in ‘SEED’, as the pair battle slippery slugs in a race to plant the very last acorn.

Elsewhere, ‘Special Delivery’ follows a postman trying to deliver his packages after an unexpected rain shower removes all the labels.

Children can also join a colony of bees for a ‘Waggle Dance’, get creative at Tameside’s magical travelling emporium ‘Phantasmagoria’, or try their hand at circus skills with Short Scruff’s Theatre.

The theatre company will also perform its puppet show ‘The Jump’, while Vix Face Painting will be on hand to add some extra colour to the day.

Live music will come from North West musicians Kayleigh Hall and Silver Train Duo.

Councillor Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said: “We’re really excited to welcome residents and visitors to Hyde for a fantastic day of free entertainment, creativity and family fun. With incredible performers, facilitators and plenty of activities to enjoy, there’s something for everyone.

“It’s set to be a brilliant day out, and we can’t wait to see the town centre busy with fun and laughter! Spread the word and come join us.”
