HYDE’S Post Office may be on the move after proposals were put forward.
The facility, currently situated at Market Place, would shift to a former furniture store at the location
It would be run by the same operator – Firstclass Managerial Ltd – with the same staff and the opening hours will not change.
But the Post Office feels switch of just 35 metres would make it better.
For a card and stationery shop would be placed alongside.
The Post Office would sit in a dedicated area of the store, with three open plan positions and one screened.
There would be a new self-serve parcel drop off facility it believes can deliver a simpler, reduced queuing solution for customers across multiple drop-off services.
If it moves, there is no change to the parking available, with a number of fee-paying car parks in the surrounding area, the closest being approximately 65 metres away on the corner of Russell Street.
There is also time restricted roadside parking in the area and access would be level at the entrance to the proposed premises.
In a statement, the Post Office said: “It is important that operators make the very best use of their resources to ensure future sustainability of both their business and the Post Office service.
“Our partner has identified an opportunity to move this branch into modern premises whilst continuing to offer Post Office services and retail alongside.”
