Bowls club remembers late Christopher Radcliffe with memorial match

A BOWLS club in Ashton-under-Lyne has held a special memorial match in memory of a much-loved member who died unexpectedly aged just 36.

Members of Waterloo and Taunton Conservative Club took to the green for the Christopher Radcliffe Memorial Trophy Bowls Cup, with the event also raising money for Willow Wood Hospice.

Christopher, who was a keen bowls player, sadly passed away in 2022.

The competition saw club members battle it out in pairs, with John Blezard and Dene Hibbert beating Stephen Radcliffe and Albert Anderson to be crowned this year’s winners.

But the match was about more than the result, with Christopher’s family and friends coming together to remember his life.

Club chairman Leon Tamcken said: “It’s so nice to come together to remember Chris, a chance for Chris’s family and friends to get together to celebrate his life. I’d like to thank Chris’s dad, who is also our Vice President, Stephen Radcliffe, for organising the cup.”

The memorial event raised more than £200 for Willow Wood Hospice, which provides specialist and compassionate care to patients across Tameside and Glossop with any life-limiting illness.
