PEOPLE in Tameside are being urged to spare a few hours to support this year’s Poppy Appeal – with a particular need for volunteers in Ashton-under-Lyne.
The Royal British Legion is looking for people to help organise and run collections in the run-up to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
While volunteers are needed across Tameside, the charity is particularly keen to hear from people in Ashton who could take on a more active role as a Poppy Appeal Organiser.
The role involves helping to coordinate a team of volunteers and support the delivery of the annual appeal, with training provided.
Scott Pringle, the Poppy Appeal Manager for the Royal British Legion in Tameside, said: “We would encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Poppy Appeal to get in touch with us to find out more.
“If you’re looking for a more active part in the Appeal, we would love to have you as a Poppy Appeal Organiser in Ashton. This role is crucial to delivering the Appeal and organising a team of dedicated volunteers. You will be fully supported in the role, including training before the Poppy Appeal.
“Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, support your community and build your skills.”
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest annual fundraising campaign and relies on thousands of volunteers across the country to help make it happen.
Money raised through the appeal helps the charity provide support to serving personnel, veterans and their families, including advice on housing, debt and finances, employment and health.
More than 3,500 volunteers help to deliver the appeal each year, with the charity now hoping more people in Tameside will step forward to play their part.
