A Glossop charity supporting families of children with life-limiting and complex medical conditions has launched its first outdoor advertising campaign across Manchester.
Reuben’s Retreat has teamed up with Ocean Outdoor and McCANN Manchester to raise awareness of its ‘Complete the Retreat’ campaign, which aims to raise funds to finish its dedicated retreat for families.
The campaign, which goes live this week, highlights the challenges some families face when trying to take a holiday and the importance of having accessible, inclusive breaks.
Ocean Outdoor has donated digital advertising space at prominent Manchester city centre locations, including Piccadilly Gardens and Spinningfields, across a range of 48- and 6-sheet formats.
Creative agency McCANN Manchester has also donated its time and expertise to help bring the campaign to life, creating a series of adverts featuring children’s drawings and playing on familiar holiday themes.
The campaign will run until August 31.
Reuben’s Retreat is currently working through a 10-phase project to create a dedicated retreat for families caring for children with life-limiting or complex medical conditions, as well as families who have experienced the loss of a child.
Six of the ten phases have now been completed, including a Bereavement Support and Wellbeing Centre and an Activity Wing featuring holistic therapies, hydrotherapy and sensory play experiences.
The charity is now raising funds to complete the restoration of its historic building and create fully accessible holiday suites, where families will be able to enjoy short breaks together in the High Peak.
The latest advertising campaign encourages people to consider donating a small amount from their own holiday budget to help make a difference to another family.
Reuben’s Retreat founder Nicola Graham said the charity was created in memory of her son Reuben, who died aged 23 months.
She said families caring for children with complex medical needs can face significant barriers to taking a holiday, including specialist equipment, accessibility requirements and increased travel and insurance costs.
Nicola said the charity wanted to create a place in the High Peak where families could spend time together in a setting designed specifically around their needs.
She added: “We are so very grateful to Ocean Outdoor and McCANN for their generously gifted support in helping us to get our message out there to more people – be it people who may feel they have a little time or money to spare, or those who could benefit from our services.”
Imogen Tazzyman, executive creative director at McCANN Manchester, said: “This is the most amazing charity providing essential support for so many families across the region.”
Reuben’s Retreat is encouraging people to find out more about its work and support the ‘Complete the Retreat’ appeal.
